This painting should stimulate courage, patience, intelligence, acquiring different perspectives and creative expression in the observer and in the space it is displayed in. According to Harish Johari in the Vedic numerology Rahu – the north node of the Moon is attributed to the number 4. Rahu and Ketu are known to be „half-planets“ or the two nodes of the Moon – the northern and the southern one respectively, placed 180 degree apart. They are non-material entities belonging to the Moon and representing the bipolar nature of man, whose influence on human emotions is well known. They are not fixed in space and are always retrograde. On the personal level 4 is the psychic number of people born on day 4, 13, 22, or 31 of any month. This mandala is appropriate to anyone attracted to it, born on those days or wishing to harmonize and to strengthen the Rahu element in their personality. Ganesh is the remover of obstacles and helps to create harmony and ease in ones life. I combined his yantra with a mandala design made from an ancient number grid named the Vedic square, choosing the number 3, which is connected to Rahu. Ganesha‘s yantra works in this painting as a mediator for harmonizing the personal energies with the universal energy of Rahu. Rahu has a strong negative side as an active and disruptive force, which is operating mainly on the mental plane and has malefic nature, which has confusing, dull, lazy, selfish and pleasure seeking influence. On the other hand its favorable aspect is granting talents for painting, writing and editing, it can bring fame and success, physical attractiveness, beauty, intelligence, courage and the ability to see the unseen side of all truth in existence from an unique perspective. It rules over the wind and the Fire element. Its colours are blue, gray, khaki, smoky green or bright colours and that is the overall feeling from the colours I have chosen as well. During the whole process of creation I have chanted and charged this painting with the Rahu mantra. I applied for it the “wash”-technique by the Tantric artist Harish Johari and the above information about the Vedic numerology is based on his book Numerology (1990).
